Swale Young Carers’
Christine Lovelock (Project Manager)    Helpline:            Free-phone  0800 169 3263

We are a voluntary sector project managed by CVS (Medway).  Our aim is to support young people aged 5-18 years, living in the Swale area – with the exception of Faversham - who are caring for, or helping to care for someone who is living at home, who has an illness, disability, mental health or addiction problem.

The Project assists Young Carers by offering support, information, advocacy and respite, thus helping to make their caring role easier and more enjoyable.  We work closely with statutory and voluntary sector organisations to raise the profile of Young Carers and to raise awareness of the issues that affect them.

We offer many respite opportunities in the form of weekly support/youth groups, day trips, workshops/training events, newsletters, and other activities, plus our 1:1 Befriending Scheme, where a Young Carer is matched to a volunteer who will support them on an individual basis.  We also operate a free-phone help-line service for support and information over the phone.

In addition to this we also consider the needs of the whole family and will make referrals as necessary to other agencies;  if this is the wish of the family.

Swale Generic Carers’
Linda Boyce (Project Manager)

The Swale Generic Carers’ Project is a service that has been set up by KCC to support carers in Swale, and is managed by Council for Voluntary Service (Medway).  Our aim is to improve the quality of life for carers of adults with a physical or learning disability or older person within Swale.  We offer one-to-one regular support groups to meet with others, contact with statutory authorities and counselling is available.  We have four support groups a month:  two social and two for carers to talk with each other and, when possible, we have a speaker.  The two social groups meet for lunch and evening dinner allowing carers to fit one of the groups into their life and give them an opportunity to unwind.
