    Membership Structure



Council for Voluntary Service (Medway)
  is a membership organisation and is known as a Council.  A Board of Trustees runs the organisation and is made up of elected representatives from the member groups.  It is the Board of Trustees who decides who is eligible to be a member.

Company Limited by Guarantee
The CVS (Medway) is a Registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee.

In accordance with the Memorandum of Association (Governing Document).

' (6) Every member of the Company undertakes to contribute to the assets of the Company in the event of the same being wound up while he is a member or within one year after he ceases to be a member for payment of the debts and liabilities of the Company contracted before he ceases to be a member and of the costs, charges and expenses of winding up and for the adjustment of the rights of the contributories among themselves such amount as may be required not exceeding one pound.'

In accordance with the Articles of Association.

'Every member of the Charity shall sign a written agreement and guarantee to become a member, confirming that they are in sympathy with the Company's aims and objects.'
(Not at present in the Constitution but it is recommended that it should be).

also:

' (3.3)  An application for membership may be approved or rejected by the Board.  The Board shall have the right for good and sufficient reason to terminate the membership of any member provided that the member concerned shall have a right to be heard before a final decision is made.'
